The Accelerated Payment of Death Benefits1 is included at no cost to the member. This
feature allows early access to a portion of your life insurance benefit prior to your death. If you
are diagnosed with a terminal illness and have a life expectancy of 12 months or less, you can
receive 50% of your coverage amount, or up to $250,000. This feature is also included in spouse
coverage.
New! As a member of Virginia State Bar, you can now receive a percentage of your
benefit if you become chronically ill and unable to perform a minimum of two activities of daily
living (ADL) for at least 90 days or have a severe cognitive impairment. This feature is included
within your policy, allowing you to receive up to 25% of your coverage amount, up to a maximum of
$125,000. ADLs are defined as eating, bathing, continence, dressing, toileting, and transferring for
those requiring substantial supervision. This feature is not included in spouse coverage.
